So The National Hotel. I've already talked and mentioned it in a previous Hollow Journal; but for the sake of this being a post specific to The National Hotel, I'll be more precise.
The National Hotel building itself was built in 1888. It later got burned down in 1902 and was rebuilt just a year later in 1903. Technically it should be called The New National Hotel, but alas, it's still called The National Hotel. Ever since last year, this hotel's motif was a Victorian look from the rooms to its lobby. Some rooms still to this day have some feel of the Victorian era. Since 2021, the hotel has been renovated with a new minimal/modern look for both the lobby and its rooms, while still keeping some of its more rustic features. Personally, it's a nice fit for where it's located and when trying to reach a newer generation.
The National Hotel also has a restaurant called The National Tap and Grill. With some tasty foods from surf to turf. The kitchen staff and even its customers are super nice and always there if you need anything. The place has held some crazy sports viewings which always are for the Celtics when it comes to basketball.
And speaking of events, the hotel has live music most, if not all days; depending on the weather of course. These specific pictures are from the musician Marc Douglas. The guy is really talented and has been coming to The National for a long time. Lone enough to be inspired to write a song about someone here at The National.
In general, though, The National Hotel is and seems personally the most respected hotel here in Block Island. Everything from its many repeat guests, its family/friendly environment, and the history that goes with the place makes The National Hotel one to stay in for the night, for sure. If you want to book or are interested in it, check out their website for more info at https://www.blockislandhotels.com/
